JoAnn Levin, MSEd, MA, CCC/SLP is an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist who has enjoyed an extensive career in teaching, administration, and speech-language pathology. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Education from Brooklyn College and her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Hofstra University. JoAnn holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a New York State License in Speech-Language Pathology. Currently, JoAnn is a member of ASHA Special Interest Divisions (2) Neurophysiology and Neurogenic Speech and Language Disorders, (3) Voice and Voice Disorders, (11) Administration and Supervision, (13) Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders, and (15) Gerontology. She is a recipient of six ASHA ACE awards for continuing education.
As a Speech-Language Pathologist, JoAnn has enjoyed the opportunity to provide services to patients across the age span in a variety of settings including acute care facilities, outpatient rehabilitation facilities, skilled nursing facilities, and home care. She has educated graduate students in the area of Medical Speech Pathology as an Adjunct Instructor at Hofstra University. JoAnn served as Chief of Speech-Language Pathology for the North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health System providing services to Long Island Jewish Hospital, North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, Schneider Children’s Hospital and The Zucker Hillside Hospital. In addition, she served on the NSLIJHS Rehabilitation Board, NSUH Nutrition Board, and LIJMC Tumor Board.
JoAnn has guest lectured in the areas of stroke, augmentative and alternative communication, and dysphagia. She made a television appearance in November 2003 on Medical Update, with Dr. Frank Fields, speaking about communication options for laryngectomee patients. She also organized a conference for Speech – Language Pathologists, Nutritionists, Physicians, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, and other Allied Health professionals on the topic of Pediatric Dysphagia.
JoAnn is now focusing her efforts on developing innovative programs to enhance communication and eating for adults and geriatrics within their living environment. She believes that in order to succeed in the therapeutic process family and caregivers should be included in the rehabilitation process. JoAnn’s programs are Patient Focused – Family Centered.
